“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
~ The Constitution of the United States

These words make up the preamble to our nation's most revered document--the Federal Constitution. The Constitution has continued to stand as our country’s ruling document and was intended to safeguard our unalienable and God-given rights. However, in the past century, America has seen many controversial decisions made about our Constitution.  Supreme Court decisions and an out-of-control Congress have steered this country in the wrong direction--away from the principles and intentions of our Founding Fathers.

First to fall were sensible fiscal limits: United States v. Butler in 1936 gave Congress the authority to tax and spend outside of its enumerated powers--resulting in what is now a multi-trillion dollar debt. Next was the fundamental and supposedly “self-evident” right to life: Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in 1973--resulting in the loss of millions of lives. More recently, Lawrence v. Texas (2003) ruled that a state can longer pass laws meant to uphold morality and decency. Then, in 2005, Roper v. Simmons imposed a radical new view upon the Constitution, setting precedent which allows unratified international law (laws passed by other countries but not by the United States) to be binding in our courts. This means that international laws can bind our sovereign nation without the permission and ratification of Congress.

Given unconstitutional power by the Supreme Court, Presidents and members of Congress have exercised it, giving birth to the myriad of problems that face our country today. We must not take any more of this, or our nation's foundation will crumble. It is time to take action. The problems are many and large in scale, but hope remains if we begin now. As noted defender of constitutional rights, Dr. Michael Farris, so aptly put it:

A determined group of enlightened citizens can work through the political processes given us by the Founders, challenging and modifying the Supreme Court to return this nation to the intentions and spirit of our founding. We can win this battle…A small army of those who believe in freedom, are instructed in the truth, and are willing to work hard can reclaim this nation in the spirit of American founding.”
